Sent to the Principal's Office

The Activist Next Door had a barn burner of a story last week, writing about "Corrective Action" taken against SD42-DFL candidate Ron Case for using his public school classroom to film a campaign video. The story was picked up by a number of blogs and political new sources.

A good portion of Case's nine-minute video was filmed inside his classroom at Oak Point Intermediate School in Eden Prairie. The video was broadcast on the "Democratic Visions" cable TV program and posted on YouTube.

Here is the letter that addresses the corrective action taken against Case:

Subject: Concern

Good Morning,

My name is Chuck Richter.

I'm the principal at Oak Point Intermediate School in Eden Prairie, Mn. I understand that you sent an email to our Superintendent Dr. Krull. As the principal who works directly with Mr. Case, I am responding.

I am aware of the concern you have regarding political activities in Eden Prairie Schools. The district does not condone political activity for personal gain in our classrooms. I have looked into the matter regarding the video, and corrective action regarding this issue has been taken.

Please direct any further questions to me by phone. I can be reached at 952-975-7611.

Certainly, Case used poor judgement in using his classroom for personal political gain. Given that the principal informed Case of the policy violation, one would expect Case to pull the video - or at least edit it. Apparently Case doesn't think so. It's been almost two weeks since the corrective action and the video is still posted on Democratic Visions' YouTube channel.

Will Ron Case ever learn that the rules also apply to him?

RON CASE: HIGHER TAXES

RON CASE: HIGHER TAXES

During Ron Case's first three terms on the Eden Prairie City Council he had a consistent record of voting for higher taxes. It's a record he can't run from, although he tries.

Case was voted off the city council in 2006, when he was soundly defeated in a run for mayor. The voters were tired of tax-raising Ron. Ron ran for one of two council seats in 2008 and was elected back onto the council, receiving the second most votes.

Late in the 2008 campaign, Case slapped some cheesy yellow "the low tax guy" stickers on his campaign signs to disguise his record. Below is a photo showing Case's yellow sticker strategy.

(It's no surprise the Case sign is placed next to two DFL candidates: The ultra-liberal Maria Ruud and the Progress-Majority-endorsed Jerry Pitzrick.)

Now that Case is running for state senate in District 42, he's going to have to come up with a better gimmick than yellow stickers to hide his record of raising taxes. Second place won't be good enough.
